Transcribe Audio File with Express Scribe

Express Scribe is professional audio player software supports common audio formats, including wav, mp3, wma and dct etc to support the transcription of audio recordings.

Step 1. Download Express Scribe:

Express Scribe supports both PC and Mac and you can download it absolutely FREE here: nch.com.au/scribe/index.html



Here the process by browsing above link:

1.    Click on “Download the free version of Express Scribe here” that highlight on above image.
2.    Run the application
3.    Agree with the license
4.    Make sure boxes are unchecked so no other relevant software is installed


Click on Finish. Express scribe successfully installed in your PC.

Step 2. Set up your Keyboard Shortcuts.

In Express Scribe you can set up your hot keys to control audio track on your keyboards.

To set up your hot keys:

•    Go to the ‘options’ in main menu
•    Select system wide hot keys
•    Confirm that the box is checked to Enable system wide Keys
•    If you want to change the default hot keys the click on add to change.
•    Once the changes are completed then click on OK to finish

Step 3. Load your first audio file:

To load your first audio file just go to the file menu and Load Dictation File or press Ctrl+L.


Step 4. Transcribe Your Audio:

Open the Microsoft Word document and then click on the Scribe Mini to minimize Express Scribe so that it sits next to your doc.

Once you are ready to start Press Play on your Keyboard and start writing out what is being said into your document.

Step 5. Proofreading and spelling:

Once you have finished typing then have another listen to your audio to confirm you have not missed anything.

And then once you’re satisfied with it you can spell check and format your document like your normally would!
